TNA Tag Team
Division – Where is it Headed?
June 13th
2010
About 7 months ago, an article was written here at tnafansite.com
about the Tag team division being at its best and several reasons
were given why with specific detail. Well since that time, a lot of
things have changed including new management on air of TNA, which
includes the acquisition of Hulk Hogan as well as various new
wrestlers never seen before and previously in the WWE.
Lets
look at those same factors that were given in the last article, which
can be ready here -

Number of Tag Teams in
TNA-
This number seems to have decreased despite the roster getting much
heavier. The teams themselves may still exist but their appearances
are much fewer and far between including the favorites that include
Motor City Machine Guns, as well as LAX who were comprised of
Homicide and Hernandez and was one of the longer-lasting teams.
The teams that were established are random names thrown together like
Jeff Hardy and Ken Anderson who are both big names on their own but
as a team they don`t have much.
British Invasion is another team that has virtually disappeared.
While Doug Williams has become the X-division champion and Rob Terry
has launched his singles career, Brutus Magnus who was the original
mouthpiece of founder of the British Invasion seems to have
completely disappeared from TNA and the mention of British Invasion
is never heard.
One team that has been established in the meantime is the pairing of
Shannon Moore and Jesse Neal, who are both
Cooperation and
competition among the Top Teams
One thing that was always prevalent in TNA is the willingness for tag
teams to help each other out and put each other over. Since about six
months ago, this seems to have gone away. It may be due to an
uneasiness among the wrestlers and a feeling of insecurity about
keeping their jobs since the foundation of TNA has changed so much.
This is something that hopefully TNA can work on getting back to
where it once was.
Consistency of Strong
Storylines
For well over a month until just recently, the tag team titles have
been toyed around with as if there is no real storyline or team to
place them on. At one point, Morgan and Hernandez were a thriving tag
team which were split up due to Hernandez going to wrestle in Mexico
while Morgan was left on his own to defend his tag titles looking for
a partner each week. However, Morgan went on to lose his tag team
titles to a the team of Eric Young and the Hall/Nash combination
which was cashed in using Nash`s briefcase that allowed him one tag
team title shot.
Since then the only time the tag team title
has been defended was when the opponents were already down and either
Young or Hall/Nash would literally get in the ring and pin their
opponent effortlessly.
This has hurt the credibility of the titles and takes away from the
years of work that was put into making the tag division successful.
Quality of the Tag
Team Matches in TNA
These aren`t as bad as one would expect based on the other criteria,
but one thing that was touched upon earlier is that there are many
cases where a team like Hall/Nash and Young would casually walk into
the ring and without doing anything pin their opponent to retain
their tag team titles.
This takes away once again from the countless matches that tag teams
like Beer Money Inc, Team 3D, America`s Most Wanted, the Young Bucks,
Hernandez and Morgan, LAX, 3 Live Krew, VKM, Christopher Daniels and
AJ Styles, and so many others that put in the time to make the tag
team division mean something in TNA.
Overall the tag team situation needs serious improvement, the talent
is still there and the hunger and desire to perform is there but it
has to be translated into stronger matches, and more consistent
storylines.
TNA has taken a lot of steps though to improve itself on other levels
including the heavyweight division so it will be interesting to see
what they do now to improve the division TNA had been good at in the
past and can still do a lot with.
This has been another article of tnafansite.com, and as always your
feedback is appreciated.
