TNA Tag Team Division – Currently at Its Peak or Room for Growth?  11/07/2009 14:20
TNA`s Tag Team Division seems to be on fire right now in what seemed to be the dying division in the wrestling industry only 6 months ago.

Here are four examples of why this is the case in TNA

Number of solid tag teams – while in WWE , the tag division would be hardly mentioned and rarely would the tag team titles be defended not to mention that teams would just be thrown together with two singles guys that it seemed the creative team had nothing new for, TNA went out of its way to establish some solid teams that include

Motor City Machine Guns –They are the Rockers of 2009,but turned up 10 notches as the rockers were one of the hottest tag teams in the early 90s and did things that were just unheard of at the time. Motor City Machine guns are two guys who individually are great in their own right but as a team they just flow extremely well and put any other high-flying tag team out there to shame and they are consistent and have not missed a beat.

Beer Money Inc. – This is a bit of a different story from

MCMG, but they have become an absolute success in their own right as they are the well deserved TNA tag team champions and in our view are considered one of the best tag teams going today. Individually, Robert Roode initially began as a part of team Canada and wasn`t really able to stand out in the group although he always performed solid matches it was when he became a singles competitor that fans started to take notice of this guy`s ability and TNA as well. He had a run with a female manager, in Traci Brookes which helped make him a solid heel and then went on to team up thereafter with James Storm who together with Chris Harris used to be a part of America`s Most Wanted, who was always considered the stronger link of the two competitors in that team. The combination of their two characters with Roode being very corporate and money oriented and James Storm being all about drinking beer, the name Beer Money Incorporate just fit and became a genius idea that rightfully so became a marketing goldmine

British Invasion – these guys, while still relatively new are extremely solid as they are all great wrestlers, they brought in a backup plan as well with Rob Terry,, alongside Brutus Magnus and Doug Williams who are giving the other tag teams a solid run for their money

Team 3D- Of course honorable mention needs to go to Team 3D who in our view give TNA it`s stable foundation as the basis for tag teams showing the hunger they`ve been showing as they have set the standard for tag team wrestling as the 22-time world tag team champions.

A recent addition of Steiner and Booker T has also now come through and while its clear they`re only a temporary unit to cash in on the tag team popularity, they have both been a part of a great tag team in their own right with Booker T being part of Harlem Heat in wCw with his brother Stevie Ray and Scott Steiner being a part of one of the greatest tag teams in the Steiner Brothers alongside his brother Ric.

Another reason why the TNA tag team division is as strong as it is, is because of it`s willingness to put on big important matches and tournaments as was the case with the Team 3D tag team invitational that made the fans and the tag teams really care about tag teams again and made the titles so much more important than before because of how far each team was willing to go and how hard they were willing to work to win those titles.

The third reason for the tag team division in TNA being as strong as it is, is due to the willingness of the tag teams to put each other over by putting their egos aside and constantly recognizing and mentioning the talents and true abilities of the other teams. Almost on every Impact show and every PPV, you`ll constantly hear Beer Money, Team 3D and Motor City Machine Guns giving the other teams credit for their talents. While this is something you`d expect to be a given, in the past years It`s been more about the ego and taking everything to themselves and giving away nothing because of being afraid that their spot would be taken away or just a lack of acknowledgement altogether.

Finally, the tag team division in TNA has been solid because of the actual matches themselves and their consistency in delivering top quality and at times stealing the show. In the past, you`d constantly see interference and screwy endings that would just confuse and irritate both the crowds and many times the wrestlers  themselves while over the last half a year or so , it`s been very rare that we`d see overwhelming interference by other tag teams except for when it`s because of a personal vendetta that one tag team would have for the other that would build up a side feud as is the case with Team 3D and the British Invasion for example.

So to summarize – we believe that the TNA tag team division is at its hottest right now and there are just so many great things ahead for TNA that it makes the entire show more fun to watch. In the meantime, this has caused the competitors to watch closely and work on establishing their tag team division further as well because there`s money to be made there.
