TNA Impact Review –
August 26th 2010
One of the Best of
the Year
In what was one of the most action-packed and consistent shows in
months, TNA put on an amazing show this past Thursday opening
up right off the bat with an extremely entertaining and solid opening
where Dixie Carter set the tone right off the bat to define
what wrestling is and should be.
The show starts with Carter being introduced and immediately
calls out Flair making mention to his comment about women and
she clearly takes offense to that. Flair comes out and initially acts
calm and tries to hit on Carter calling her drop dead gorgeous
as a way of flattering her and calming her down.
She immediately sees right through him and tells him he failed at
what he was supposed to do which is mentor the young guys in TNA.
Flair calls out his boys, Fourtune, who immediately
show up and stand behind Ric Flair who Dixie says is suspended
without pay for his actions for 90 days. He says Flair and
Fourtune are one in the same and asks if they`re suspended as
well and Dixie answers that they`re not. Dixie also
tells Flair his actions since Hardcore Justice have
been despicable, cowardly and pathetic.
Flair finally gets upset and starts going off on Dixie,
saying that before she makes a career decision on suspending him she
should know that he and Fourtune are one in the same. As he
brings out Fourtune he says “this is TNA”.
Dixie reminds Flair that each one of the guys in
Fourtune were there before Flair came into TNA.
She then asks if this is what he`s turning them into. She then really
hits a nerve and says that while Flair is sitting on the
sidelines, the members of Fourtune will continue to wrestle in
TNA and do great things for the company.
Flair is upset and removes his blazer, and says he`s going to
show Dixie what Naitch is all about and this causes Serge,
Dixie`s husband to come in. While he`s getting beat up –
Flair tells Fourtune to bring him to the middle and as
they`re about to beat down on him Hogan comes out with his own
group of guys, the finalists for the TNA Championship, that
include Pope, Angle, Anderson and Hardy.
Hogan goes into the ring despite several warnings by Flair.
He says the smartest thing for him to do is to listen. He says he
made a deal that they are going to run the company 50/50 and now that
Carter is up to her neck in crap, he is going to override her
decision saying it would be too easy to put Flair on the shelf
and says he`s not suspended. It would be too easy after what he did
to him and Jarrett and that he did a real good job of pissing
him off.
Hogan then says his guys are the real TNA pointing to
his four guys and in a pretty weird moment Flair confesses the
`they` that Abyss was talking about is Fourtune. For a
storyline that`s been going on for a few months now it was very
random and without much attention brought to it putting a lot of work
to build it up to shame.
Flair then says they`re taking over on his terms and when he`s
ready. Hogan asks him why not tonight and Flair says
that he`s not ready tonight. Since Hogan is running the
company, it will be Hogan`s four against Flair`s four.
Flair is irate and starts to leave with Fourtune as
Hogan`s music hits and as they`re getting ready to leave, EV
2.0 start attacking Fourtune and get the upper hand and
some payback for the previous weeks.
Following the break, we get an interview with Angle who says
the TNA championship is the most important thing to them and
that he has been chasing the title but that tonight it`s going to be
about something bigger, and that is the company TNA. The
opportunities Dixie and Hogan gave to them is something
they are indebted to and they are going to be taking back the keys to
the company and kick Fourtune`s asses.
Up
next is a strange match with Orlando
Jordan going up against Samoa Joe.
He has a Samoa
Joe
action figure around his neck and as he`s coming down the ring he
gropes So Cal
Val
which is finally stopped when Joe`s
music hits.
They go back and forth once the match sets off and at one point
Jordan puts the entire action figure in his mouth and pays for
it as Joe goes postal on Jordan and finally hits him with the
muscle buster and gets the pin.
Immediately following his win, Joe is still in the ring and
out comes Jarrett who asks Joe to be in his corner
against Nash since he knows Sting is probably going to
get involved. He talks about Joe being with TNA for
five years and how he knew from the first day in the indies that he
wanted Joe to be part of the company. Will Joe take care of Sting
if he shows his ugly here tonight? Deal or no Deal.
Joe takes some time to answer but says that he does not need to take
sides because he doesn`t have to. Joe only knows how to play for one
team, and that is his own. Taz agrees and says he`s not surprised
with that answer.
Up next is Jarrett vs Nash. They go back and forth in
what is a pretty slow paced match. As the match progresses, the
referee gets knocked out and as Jarrett gets the upper hand he hits
Nash against the exposed turnbuckle and hits him with the
stroke and has him pinned but the referee is not conscious and cannot
make the count. Sting appears and whacks Jarrett with the
baseball bat setting up Nash for the cover and gets the win.
Nash is announced the winner, and Sting gets into the
ring and is about to beat down on Jarrett when Hogan`s
music hits but it is Eric Bischoff who comes out. Bischoff
questions Sting`s actions and asks if he`s going to show
everyone what kind of pond scum really is. Sting says he wants
Hogan and at first Bischoff plays around and asks if
that`s what he really wants but was just setting him up for an attack
by Hogan who comes from behind Sting and knocks out
Sting with the chair.
Following the commercial – we see a backstage segment of Hogan
talking with Dreamer saying that like it or not they are on
the same team. He makes mention of his new stable, which he has named
Fatal Four , and says they are going to take care of
Fourtune tonight and therefore needs Dreamer to back
off for just one night. Dreamer agrees.
Hogan then says that Abyss needs his legs cut off and
to put him on the table and hack him up. Dreamer says no
problem and to consider it done.
Up next is Beer Money vs FBI , Little Guido and Tony
Marmaluke in a beat down by Beer Money that ends quickly.
Up next is the reunion of Angelina Love and Velvet Sky,
the original Beautiful People. But first, we get Doug
Williams take on the X-division and why he doesn`t think
of him beating them all down as arrogance but more as competence as
he pushes forward the artform of wrestling and giving it the respect
it truly deserves and says EV 2.0 just brings it back down
again.
On the other side is Dreamer talking to EV 2.0 and asks
who can deliver Abyss`s head on a stick and Stevie Richards
steps up and says if he wants it he`s got it obviously
volunteering himself.
The Beautiful People then come out and get rave reviews from
Taz who says it`s a thing of beauty and Tenay
officially announces that the original Beautiful People are
back.
Angelina Love starts off talks about how something was missing
with the Beautiful People, and that the fans felt the same
way. Love says she does value the friendship they had and that
they should forgive and forget. Velvet agrees with her and
says to let bygones be bygones and do what they together can do best
which is dominate the knockouts division.
As they embrace – the same music comes back on and Madison Rayne
comes in her usual form on a motorcycle with giant helmet motorcycle
chick.
Rayne goes off right away saying if she wasn`t such a lady she
would barf in the ring. She threatens that first thing the next day
she will hit both Velvet and Love with a lawsuit for
copyright infringement saying they will never come out to her music
again and never refer to themselves as the Beautiful People.
She says she is the only Beautiful person in the ring and that
she`s all natural unlike those two silicone whores. Rayne asks
if the botox has infected her brain, but that it was her that brought
Rayne to TNA because she needed beauty and class. She
says Love was at the end of her road when she brought her in
and that Rayne made her a main event again.
As for Velvet Sky, Rayne says she has always been one thing,
and one thing only and that is her (Rayne`s) little bitch.
This immediately sets of Velvet who goes on the attack and
takes down Madison Rayne.
Motorcycle Helmet chick right away helps Velvet but
Love then gets involved and goes on the attack as well we have
a full on cat fight which is quickly interrupted and stopped by
security as the crowd chants “let them fight”.
Next up is a great segment of Motor City Machine Guns talking
about getting perks and having Guitar Hero Green Day released early
to them because of them being champions. They talk about the
Young Bucks, aka Generation Me and how they are up
against them and that there is only room for one high flying tag team
as they paved the way for smaller guys to make it to the top.
Next up is a segment with Desmond Wolfe and Brutus Magnus,
with Chelsea. The segment was funny as Chelsea asks if
they think they can get something to eat and Wolfe tells her
she just ate yesterday. She is also teased when Wolfe asks if
she wants a dress as well which she answers yes to, but he then says
that when she makes her own money that it will be possible
Magnus brings out the black credit card – saying it is
unlimited which they hand over to Chelsea who ponders how much
damage she can do as they continue to move on.
Next up Generation Me versus Motor City Machine Guns.
The match is really fast paced and goes back and forth in a serious
array of high flying moves you have to see to believe because they
any description here would not do them justice.
The Bucks get a few great moves as they seem to have a lot
that involve them simultaneously back flip and kick down their
opponent. Generation Me then do an initially confusing airplane like
move near the ropes as Jeremy gets Max up on the rope who then
backflips onto the outside onto Motor City Machine Guns.
The match finally concludes when Alex Shelley hits a cross
body as Chris Sabin holds their opponent in a neck breaker
position to end the match at a high point.
At the conclusion of the match – they all shake hands and raise
their hands together to acknowledge the great match they just had.
Following the match – we take a look at this week`s Impact
Player of the week, Generation Me. They give Generation
Me a chance to talk as they give credit to their faith for their
success. They seem to have a very similar upbringing to that of the
Hardy Boyz who grew up on wrestling and they talk about how
rare it is for a tag team to be brothers as they are. They say
wrestlers have bad reps for certain things, but they are drug free
and don`t drink. They go to work, get a bite to eat and go to sleep.
This seems to be an acknowledgment to so many wrestlers in the past
who depended on steroids and other pain killers to get by but they
say they`re not hurt, they`re fine and they don`t rely on drugs to
get by.
The segment ends with them answering the question of what they would
be doing if they weren`t wrestlers. They say they never had a
plan B and never thought about it. They told their parents from an
early age that they`re going to be pro wrestlers and everyone thought
they were crazy but here they are and that they are there doing the
interview proving that they made it.
The tag team art form was a lost art two years ago but TNA
brought it back, and while there are other places to wrestle,
TNA gives them a chance to shine and show their art form and
that TNA is the number one place to do it and that it is
appreciated putting out examples like Motor City Machine Guns
and said no one else can touch them all over the world expect them.
They talk about rarity of being brothers and that they have this
chemistry. They are working hard, they`re eating right, and that they
want to carry that on for years to come
Flair is being interviewed next – he says he is pissed off
and that he said he would be the man in TNA and that is
exactly what he is. He`s done taking orders, he`s got five or six
guys who are the heart and sole of TNA and tonight Anderson,
Pope, Hardy and Angle are going to find out first hand.
Just as about he`s about to finish his sentence Sting chokes
Flair with his bat saying him and Nash have a receipt
coming courtesy of him and Nash , and once they eliminate the
big problem they`re coming for him.
Tenay and Taz discuss No Surrender saying
everywhere you turn there is a fight for power. World Television
Champion, AJ Styles will be going up against Tommy
Dreamer in an I Quit Match. They make note of how both of
these guys are extremely tough so this should be an interesting match
to say the least. Two of the most resilient men are going to be
tested to see who will say “I Quit”.
Motor City Machine Guns will be going up against the number
one contenders, Magnus and Wolfe calling their team
London Brawling
In the semi-final match it will be Mr Anderson against the
Pope for the TNA championship while the other match
will be Kurt Angle against Jeff Hardy.
In the back is Steven Richards beating on Abyss as he
throws him around and ends up getting thrown into the garbage cans
for his efforts. Abyss asks Richards if he wants to
join his buddy RVD. They try to make the segment look badass
but it seems to go too long and drags on to the point of irrelevance.
Abyss says his little buddy (Steven Richards` buddy)
squealed like a pig when Janice got involved. Stevie
finally hits a superkick and knocks down Abyss. Richards
then comes at Abyss with Janice, the two by four with
nails, as Abyss looks on in horror. Abyss reverses the
attack though and choke slams Richards onto a stack of wood
and tells Richards to deliver the message to the rest of EV
2.0 which is that the same thing that happened to RVD is
going to happen to them.
In the ring is Rhino who calls out Abyss right then and
there. Abyss comes out through the crowd as Rhino goes
right after him with full intensity. Rhino is about to hit the
gore on the outside but gets knocked out. Rhino continues to
try and hit full offense on Abyss but Abyss continually
gets the upper hand.
As they brawl back and forth they make their way to the back of the
impact zone near the crowd but on an elevated platform as Abyss
is hurt, Rhino once again sets him up for the gore and finally
hits it as the crowd cheers but Rhino seems to be limping and
looks like he hurt his knee.
AJ Styles is backstage and talks again about how TNA is
the house AJ Styles built and not Anderson, not Pope
and definitely not Hardy since he hasn`t been around long
enough to build anything. If anyone read anybody wrong, it was Styles
reading her wrong. It wasn`t her who gave him the opportunity, it was
him who gave her the opportunity. He made this company and he made
her. And what he made, if he has to, he will tear down.
Final match and Main Event. Fourtune – Aj Styles,
Kazarian, Matt Morgan, and Doug Williams accompanied by Flair.
What`s funny about this is that each member has a different hand
signal for what they believe Fourtune to be, one person is
putting up all fingers except for their middle finger, while others
are not including their ring finger. As AJ is also coming out
– he removes his hood and in a funny moment shows a feather on his
head that stays on there for a while which Taz notices and
laughs about for a while.
Next up is Anderson who gets on the mic and introduces himself
from Green Bay Wisconsin. Next up is Pope at 100% as he makes
it rain money with his face on it. Hardy is out next, full
face paint and all as the crowd is extremely excited. Last out is
Kurt Angle, introduced as professional wrestling`s only
Olympic Gold Medalist.
The match starts off with Anderson against Kaz. They
go back and forth with an arm bar on Anderson by Kaz
which Anderson reverses only to get slapped by Kaz.
Anderson gets the upper hand and then slaps Kaz which
Taz makes mention is due to Anderson not being in a
good mood due to him having traveling problems but he`s a
professional and he`s there.
Pope is tagged in and comes in as Kaz tags in AJ
Styles. They go back and forth and AJ Styles then tags
into Doug Williams. Aj Styles comes back in and kicks
Pope in the back of his head.
Meanwhile there`s a discussion on how Fourtune is oozing
confidence thanks to Flair and putting together this group.
Tenay questions Taz telling him to think of the
violence, the attack on EV 2.0 and on Hogan and that
things went too far with Dixie and her husband Serge. But in
this match, he doesn`t think things are going too far.
Morgan and Hardy lock up and Morgan hits Hardy
with an elbow and practically knocks him out an then laughs about it
as Flair laughs along outside the ring.
Morgan continues to dominate as he stands over Hardy
showing the sheer size difference and the confidence level Morgan
has gained until finally tagging in AJ Styles. Doug
Williams is then in the ring and picks up Hardy and throws
him neck first into the ropes.
Hardy finally tags in Angle who clears the ring and
knocks out the rest of Fourtune as he goes for Kaz who is now
the legal man in the ring and chaos ensues as everyone jumps
in the ring with Kaz hitting a few moves, which finally ends
with Pope stealing the win after Angle hits the Angle
Slam and without noticing it Pope tags in and steals the
pin that Angle felt he should have gotten. Angle is
upset and slaps Pope as they go at it. Fourtune takes
over and knock everybody out as they get into a six on four situation
against Fourtune with Beer Money coming in to help
their teammates.
Tommy Dreamer then runs in and is followed by Sabu who
throw the likes of Doug Williams into the rail as Mick
Foley gets involved as well. Sabu sets up Doug Williams
onto the table with his head flat on the table as he hits the
Arabian Face Buster and breaks the table. The brawl
continues showing Tommy Dreamer and AJ Styles fighting
one another as Impact goes off the air.
