It was interesting for us to review the DVD of Sting – Return of an Icon as he is more known as a wCw superstar more than anything but with his return
this past Thursday March 27th, the timing couldn`t be better.
The DVD includes a really interesting section where Sting talks about his career. He talks
about the early days of his wrestling career and how he had virtually no interest in getting into wrestling but was constantly encouraged by Hogan, who at
the time was the only wrestler he knew at the time (Late 80s).
He talks about being considered a `second class wrestler` and finally becoming a first class `citizen` where he finally
starts seeing success and getting paid more than $25 a night.
He discusses his transition from the old sting, always positive and flamboyant and going into the new sting but having to assimilate to the changing times as Nash and Hall were coming in and Hogan being booed out of the building during his red and yellow days
and telling fans to say their prayers and eat their vitamins.
He talks about bad choices that he`s made, riding high on the wave of success in the wrestling business while his marriage was being compromised. He also realized at one point how miserable he was despite
him living it up, he`d go to his room and be miserable.
This was when he turned to religion which he says was what saved him.
He talks about when wCw closed, and how he was at one of his happiest moments. He was happy not because the company closed,
but because he needed to get away from the wrestling business.
The moment for him was bittersweet.
He also talks about Vince Mcmahon and offering him to come to the wwf but he didn`t feel right about it because he didn`t trust how he would be used. He mentions the hostile takeover by wCwand how the group of guys has dwindled down and what Vince had wasn`t the
mainstay group of guys that defined what wCw were all about.
In an interesting tidbit, he talks about Booker T coming onto WWF tv for the first time and knocking out all the guys in the ring and then the rock doing the same thing, and when they finally confront each other, the Rock asks "who are you" and it is that one line in his opinion that showed that Booker T was being buried because he was part of the wCw, despite Booker T
being a great wrestler and eventually reaching success because he is a talented wrestler.
He concludes the interview by talking about how he`d like to help TNA become mainstream.
